Most churches have a “one-size-fits-all” ministry for young people. What is offered is what is available, and if that doesn’t work for a particular youth or young adult, he or she usually gets lost in the shuffle.

The chances that a child on the autism spectrum participates in your Church School is very likely. Today is the first Sunday of Advent, when we begin a new Church Year as well as the season of waiting and preparation for the birth of Christ. We begin the season of Advent November 27th this year. The first Sunday of Advent is also the first Sunday of a new church year. It marks the end of the old Church year and the beginning of the new. The word advent comes from a Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival.” In Advent we are waiting for the coming of the birth of Christ. In our own lives, Advent can be a special time of learning to wait and slow down.
